A Look Inside the Tokyo Traffic Control Center

The “Trends in Japan” blog got the chance to stop by the Tokyo Traffic Control Center and get an in-depth look at how traffic operates in Tokyo minute-by-minute.

Seated in the middle is the Commander of the Control Center, with operators on the sides to collect information. The Information Board on the far right can display anything from handwritten notes to additional maps brought up on the computers.

Rent-a-Cat

Cat lovers in Tokyo, Japan, who are unable to own pets because of housing regulations can rent one instead at Cat Cafe Calico:
Visitors to Calico pay 800 yen an hour or 2,000 yen for three hours in a big room where 14 well-brushed and shampooed cats hang out. After a thorough handwash, the visitor can play with the cats, read comics or just relax.
The clean, odourless cafe — Calico has six air fresheners and the litter trays are out of sight — gets about 70 visitors a day during the week and 150 a day at weekends.

Coffee Spitter in Japan Captured

A man was arrested in Japan for assaulting girls walking to school with … coffee!
The spitter, who was nicknamed “Coffee Bukake Man” by locals, had carried out 5 attacks since the end of October. All of his victims were junior high school or high school girls wearing their uniforms, and all of the attacks involved spitting coffee onto their faces from his car window.
