1. Guerrilla rainstorm (gerira gōu - ゲリラ豪雨): Sudden, unpredictable rainstorms struck Japan with alarming frequency and intensity this year. Although the expression “guerrilla rainstorm” has been in use for about 30 years, this summer’s abnormally unstable weather really hammered home the meaning.

Fast food = corn, corn and more corn [Effect Measure]

Half of all restaurants in the United States are fast food restaurants. They do $100 billion worth of business a year (that’s one seventh of a Bailout, a new unit of expenditure). A lot of the fast food is in the form of beef (hamburgers), chicken (sandwiches, tenders or nuggets) and french fries. A new paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS, familiarly known in the trade as “penis”) uses stable isotope analysis to trace the input materials in three large fast food chains. The results can be summed up in one word — corn:

Ad Ahoy! : When all you need is extra

What do you need when you are sleepy at work? What do you seek for when you are playing basketball and chewing something makes you focus? What do you look for when you realised your breath is not exactly freshening?
Yeap! You need a chewing gum. Chewy, minty, flavoury and in some way, cool. Chewing gums has been around for ages! In fact, during the olden times, people started chewing on leaves and plants. That is way back then. Let’s not get too far now.

One of the first chewing gums I ever tasted is Extra chewing gum. It has been around since 1984, making its name as the first sugar-free chewing gum in the market. Recently, I saw Extra’s TV commercial and I simply love it! Then I searched in Youtube for more of the similar ads and I got seven of it!

Using the combination of people in everyday situations […]

Wordy laugh: So funny you might crap in your pants!

Yes! Wordy laugh is back after so long, and boy, I got a lot of craps to share to all FunnyCoolStuff readers today! Let’s see, today’s special word is “crap”. Why? I tell you why. East Asian always got it wrong when they pronounce or spell anything close to “crap”. For example:

Seeing that the product is fireworks, I think they meant “Thunder Clap” which makes sense but this product name would definitely catch more attention. Made in China.

“Handicrapped” or “handicapped”, doesn’t matter when you are showing compassion. Made in Laos.

Personally, I think this is a creative effort by it’s designer. You know, “Famous Scrap” is a little too long and not hip enough, it does seems much cooler with “Famouscrap” and the “s” circled. Well, when you are in Japan, who cares about the word “crap”. Made in Japan.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what “crap” really means, if […]

Groovisions creates funky ag ministry video

The Tokyo-based Groovisions motion graphic design crew has created a stylishly animated educational video for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), which highlights some of the issues surrounding the future of food in Japan.

In the video, Groovisions use their hallmark playful-yet-ordered sim-like virtual landscape to illustrate a host of food-related challenges facing Japan. Issues include Japan’s 40% food self-sufficiency rate (the lowest of any major industrialized nation), the declining agricultural industry, and the impact of world population growth and environmental changes on the global food supply.

The video also suggests that the Western-style diet of meat, fat and oil, which has partially replaced Japan’s traditional diet of rice, fish and vegetables, has contributed to a variety of health problems and reduced demand for domestically grown produce. The situation is exacerbated by other demographic factors such as the aging farming population and the abandonment of agricultural land. To reverse […]

The donuts you will definately enjoy!

I always like donuts, from Dunkin’ Donuts to Big Apple to home-made, I like it, especially when it is glazed with white chocolate or mint with chocolate chips. Sounds yummy isn’t it?
Then one day, someone posted something online that caught my eyes - Bbq Donut. So I decided I would check this BBQ Donut out because I’ve tried so many donuts over the years and I have never see nor tried a barbequed flavored donut before.
To my surprise, this is the first picture I saw when I typed “bbq donut” and pressed SEARCH:

Well, I understand why it is called “donut” because of the round shape, but I don’t know why “bbq”. So the probing and researching began.

At this stage of understanding, I am still not so sure what it was:

And there! Now I know what it is. It is a round BBQ donut that floats on water and you can […]
